Millipore

Project: Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Background: Millipore’s protein analysis business in Dundee, Scotland supports large pharmaceutical customers such as Eli Lilly and Merck. The analysis was based on a process tied to massive Microsoft Excel spreadsheets requiring significant manual intervention. As the number of proteins being analyzed increased, the limits of Microsoft Excel as an effective tool and data store were quickly reached. Millipore needed a more customer-friendly way to present the results of their protein analysis service.

MITRE

Project: Single Sign On

Background: Over the course of several years, the MITRE Air Force Center in Bedford, Massachusetts had deployed many web-based applications that each required different login credentials. In order to streamline the end-user experience, MITRE chose a Single Sign On (SSO) solution and asked OpenSource Connections to provide the system design.

SAIC

UVa Library

Project: Blacklight DL: A search engine for a digital library with thousands of titles.

Background: The University of Virginia's Digital Library's old search engine crashed when a query resulted in too many hits. They wanted to convert the search engine to one running on an open source platform. However, UVa Technical staff did not have the necessary resources available to develop or implement this new solution. Given the severity and regularity of the system crashes, a solution was required immediately.
